Located in Berlin but owned by the City of New Britain, this landfill has been capped for several
decades. In recent years the City was able to obtain a permit from CT DEEP to add 3′ to 6′ of fill
atop the existing cap. We were able to utilize approximately 19,000 cubic yards of loose material that
we dredged from Stanley Quarter Park for a first layer and then covered it with a fresh layer of
screened topsoil in preparation for an established lawn.
The City hopes to utilize the newly capped landfill to support a solar farm.
