Rocky Hill Glastonbury Ferry Improvements

There are not many opportunities to work on infrastructure that has been connecting communities for more than 370 years. The Rocky Hill–Glastonbury Ferry has carried travelers across the Connecticut River since 1655, making it the nation’s longest-running continuously operated ferry service and a unique part of Connecticut’s transportation history.

Colossale Siteworks is proud to play a role in its next chapter, working with the Connecticut Department of Transportation to improve the ferry landings on both sides of the river while respecting the character of this historic crossing. The project brings together a series of improvements designed to make the landings safer, more accessible, and more welcoming for the people who use and visit them. Colossale’s work includes decorative gates and fencing, stone pillars, upgraded sidewalks and pedestrian connections, accessibility improvements, lighting, and new seating areas.

Working in such a visible waterfront setting requires careful planning and coordination. Construction was scheduled around the ferry’s operating season to minimize disruption and allow this longstanding transportation connection to continue serving the communities on both sides of the river. For Colossale, the project is about more than improving two ferry landings. It is an opportunity to help preserve and enhance a piece of Connecticut history—bringing modern standards for safety and accessibility to a place that has connected people across the Connecticut River for centuries.
