Silver Sands is a public recreation area located on Long Island Sound that consists of 297 acres of beach, dunes, restored salt marsh, open areas and woods. It’s offerings include swimming, picnicking, trails, boardwalks, and opportunities for bird-watching – needless to say it is one of the most visited recreational spots in the area. Our work was part of an overall renovation to its facilities (concessions, bathrooms, offices, maintenance area, toll booths) and grounds.
In addition to our work that included the installation of newly paved driveways, drop-off areas, parking lots and concrete walkways, we also upgraded the electrical and telecommunication utilities. A large challenge of this project was the large gas line that ran through much of the excavation work and required us to bridge over it in several locations. Due to the parks popularity during the warmer months, we isolated much of our work so as not to disturb those visiting and we installed a large amount of signage to redirect traffic to unaffected areas.
The improvements help to create a welcoming entrance and easy access to one of the state’s best parks for getting away from it all.
