As we celebrate our 70 years in business we’re looking back at highlight projects – this we completed in 1986… We had the honor to work on this historic site that is home to The WWI Memorial and located in Walnut Park in New Britain. Our role was to fill in the wading pool and install concrete sidewalks around the pool, across the middle, around the flagpoles and at the entrance to the rotunda.

This was a collaboration the City of New Britain organized with Tilcon CT in charge of filling the entire pool with stone and eventually topsoil. Once the stone was in place, Colossale proceeded to install the concrete. We provided an “exposed aggregate” at the entrance to the rotunda to match the existing concrete around the monument. An interesting note: this stone had to be shipped in from Atlanta, Georgia, stored in a bin at Tilcon and utilized specifically for this purpose. We were pleased that the final product closely matched the rotunda and still looks great today!
